USA Employee Safety Overseen by OSHA
Indoors, Contract Laboratory would like to take the time to remind everyone about the importance of employee safety. So, why you are enjoying your Labor Day Holiday off, it’s important to remember everyone behind the scenes that keep workplaces safe.
Whether you work in a highly industrial workplace with dangerous equipment like a manufacturing plant, a building construction site, or a biosafety laboratory with explosive chemicals, all have been made safer by the various federal, state, or local government laws and regulations made to protect employee workers at their place of work. These are federal agencies like the USA Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) which is a federal agency under the US Department of Labor. President Nixon established the federal agency OSHA under the Occupational Safety and Health Act on December 29, 1970. This federal OSHA law regulates much of the aspects of employee safety in the USA and it’s interesting to read the entire Occupational Safety Health Act.
While the federal, state, and local governments have laws and regulations to protect employees, there are many people that make overseeing and evaluate employee safety and health in their careers. These include everyone from the federal government lawyers developing the laws and regulations to the Industrial Hygienists measuring sound volume to the Laboratory technicians swabbing manufacturing equipment to ensure it is free of dangerous materials.
