How did you enter the cosmetic testing industry?
I spent my early career in the pharmaceutical industry with Procter and Gamble (P&G) Pharmaceuticals, Sandoz, and Roxane Laboratories, Inc. I joined Consumer Product Testing Labs (CPT) in 1991 as the vice president of our analytical services group and, in 1999, I became the president. I have chaired the Independent Beauty Association (IBA) technical regulatory committee for 10 years and been a board member for 15 years. I actively serve on several international cosmetics regulatory committees as well.
What will you be discussing during Outsource! Week?
I will be discussing safety standards in the cosmetic industry by looking at the history of regulation, current common practices, and possible MoCRA (Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act) requirements for safety substantiation.
Why is safety substantiation so vital?
Safety substantiation is the first responsibility of an ethical cosmetic company. With the new requirements of MoCRA and the FDA’s right to records review, it is more imperative than ever to document the safety of a product before putting it on the market.
What is your favorite element of working at CPT Labs?
Helping smaller clients meet compliance and regulatory needs is one of the main highlights of working at CPT Labs.
